You will be joining millions of others who have enjoyed the game, lost money, made money and some of even become pro players by virtue building a bankroll online. In regards to playing Texas hold them poker on line you do need to understand the rules, because there are some subtle differences in online poker.

Keep in mind that the flow of Texas Hold'em online is rather quicker, since you will be seeing approximately 60 on 100 hands per hour, whereas live Texas hold them due to manual dexterity limitations, allows for about 30 hands per hour. Most of the rules for online poker play, have to do with avoiding or defusing colluding.

English only in the chat box, is one of the rules, is one of the rules common amongst most poker websites in that it does two things in keeping the playing field level, and catering to their highest concentration market. If you see somebody chatting in the poker window, and in any other language but English, chances are, they are breaking the rules and you should report them.

There is no rule against chatting during a hand, however, if you are not in the hand he should not be discussing what you mucked, or what you think any of the remaining opponents have their hands.  Leave all that speculation for after the hand, or better yet, don't say a thing.

Most major poker sites also prevent the use of more than one poker account.  So when you sign up for an account and pick your username, keep in mind that you be stuck with that forever on that site.

You cannot use an outside means of communication with any other player at the table when playing texas hold'em online, including messenger, e-mails, telephone calls, VOIP, or three way communications. You can only communicate with players at the table through the chat box.

You cannot collude with another player to eliminate a third player from the table during a tournament or cash game. This usually involves the safe play of checking down a hand, or encouraging other players to come in the pot and check down. Although this happens quite often, the normal procedure is to not say a thing about during play.

Many poker sites also have additional rules for the use of third-party software.  Party Poker and Poker Stars are adamant in this regard, and include mechanisms to check your computer's hard drive in their software installation.  To play at the sites you must agree to allow them to do this.
